KUALA TERENGGANU, Feb 11 (Bernama) -- The Pahang to Terengganu high-speed train project is now in the design phase after being approved by the central government, said state Industrial, Trade and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Toh Chin Yaw.

The project, estimated at RM2 billion under the 10th Malaysia Plan, includes alternative passenger routes to several destinations and a cargo route between the two states, he said.

"So far, we have received the approval to connect and widen the tracks from the Kemaman Supply Base Port to Bukit Besi (Dungun) and Gebeng (Kuantan)," he told reporters after a Chinese New Year celebration, here Monday.

The project will start from the Gebeng Industrial estate in Kuantan, passing through the Kemaman port before ending at the Bukit Besi station, he added.
